Air Quality

As the Green Party, one of our major campaigns and key topics revolves around air quality. This is an issue of utmost importance, as it directly impacts the air that the people of Northamptonshire breathe.

The air quality index is updated on a rolling basis, allowing us to monitor and address concerns promptly. Members of the public are also able to get involved if they wish, by participating in the monitoring process. Small measuring devices called diffusion tubes are installed on lampposts next to the road. Over a period of 4 weeks, these tubes measure the amount of Nitrogen Dioxide in the air. The tubes are then sent off to a lab for testing, and the figures are sent back to us around ten days later. The more tubes we can place, the more complete our data will be.

Due to our persistent efforts, towards the end of 2018, Northampton Borough Council launched a public consultation regarding proposed changes to the Air Quality Management Areas in Northampton. The Northants Greens actively participated in this consultation by providing feedback and data.

We have a long-standing commitment to ensuring clean air for our communities, and our past actions, such as contributing to this consultation and facilitating public involvement in monitoring, demonstrate our dedication to this vital matter before any other party in the county.
