Following on from the Climate Emergency Motion that was declared by Northampton Borough Council at the start of June, today saw a similar motion debated in Northamptonshire County Council and although the vote was not unanimous, it was still passed with a healthy majority.
Northants Green Party have been in discussion with opposition Councillors regarding this motion for several months now and are happy that this motion was now passed. As we said when the earlier motion was passed at NBC, the hard work starts now.
Steve Miller, Parliamentary Candidate for Northampton North said “Earlier this week, NBC held the first meeting of their Zero Carbon Working Group, and it is clear that they are committed to an approach that invites input from all areas of the community. I hope that this announcement by the County Council means that they will have a similar open mind and work closely with both the Borough Council, with interested parties across the Community, and we look forward to continuing to work with them all.”
